About the underwater tragedy of the "Titan" submarine, which attracted global attention after 5 billionaires lost their lives during a dive, a film called "Salvaged" will be made.
The film comes from producer E. Brian Dobbins, whose last credit was the horror comedy The Blackening. He will partner with MindRiot Entertainment, a company that is also making a documentary series about Kyle Bingham, the former mission director of OceanGate, the company behind the submarine.
"The Titan tragedy is reminiscent of the Challenger space shuttle disaster in 1986: it's a tragedy I will never forget," said the company's Justin McGregor.
The disaster, which killed all five billionaires on board the submarine after the vessel lost contact with the surface and exploded, made international news in June.
The film will reportedly cover the periods before, during and after the five-day search for the submarine, according to Deadline, as reported by The Guardian.
Co-screenwriter Jonathan Kesey said the film will aim to indict "our nonstop, 24/7 media cycle that condemns and destroys the lives of so many people."
"Only the truth matters. And the world has the right to know the truth, always, and not the bait that is shoved down our throats by those looking for their five minutes of fame ," he said.
Director James Cameron, behind the classic Titanic, was initially rumored to be making a film based on the tragedy, but he later tweeted that he would never be involved and that the idea itself was "offensive".
