All flights at Luton Airport in the UK have been suspended and people have been asked not to travel there after a huge fire broke out in a terminal car park. Hundreds of people are now stranded in Luton, with no way to get home.
The fire service announced that there may have been around 1,200 vehicles in the car park, which were damaged. Four firefighters and one airport staff member were taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.
Flights are suspended until 12:00 for the safety of passengers and staff. The airport said a car fire had spread without giving further details. Footage shared online shows huge flames and smoke billowing from the top floor of the building.
Fifteen fire engines attended the blaze that engulfed half of the multi-story structure.
London Luton Airport is the fifth largest airport in the United Kingdom after Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted, carrying more than 13 million passengers in 2022.
