Many billionaires are at the center of daily discussions, but few embody the combination of royal heritage, national influence and extraordinary wealth like King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand, also known as King Rama X.
According to Timesofindia, his net worth exceeds $43 billion, making him the richest king in the world.

The royal inheritance and his father's investments

After the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in 2016, Vajiralongkorn inherited vast assets from the Crown Property Bureau (CPB), an institution that controls large parts of royal real estate and business activities.
Although it was once considered state property, King Rama X changed this rule and in 2018 the power of the CPB foundation fell into his hands.

The strategic investments he has made over the years in Thailand's most profitable businesses, including major banks, telecommunications companies and real estate, have contributed significantly to his fortune. Unlike Western monarchs who are subject to strict financial controls, Vajiralongkorn has largely avoided democratic oversight.

He now spends most of his time in Germany, a move that has sparked backlash from both Thais and the international community.
However, with the introduction of strict lèse-majesté laws that criminalize any criticism of the royal family, there has been a youth protest movement in recent years challenging the king's political powers.
