According to official data provided by the Special Prosecution Office, since its establishment and until the end of 2024, there have been nearly 900 indictments for criminal offenses in the field of corruption.
The Special Prosecution Office seems to be "suffocated" by lawsuits against ministers, deputies and other state officials. Since 2019, when this body began work, it has been seen as the main tool in the fight against corruption, causing even those who attack and anathematize it to go and file lawsuits.
Its head Altin Dumani himself has often complained about the large volume of work, with many cases showing images of files placed on the floor and on top of tables due to lack of space.
According to official data provided by the Special Prosecution Office, since its establishment and until the end of 2024, there have been nearly 900 indictments for criminal offenses in the field of corruption.
" Regarding point 2, it turns out that 892 is the number of criminal reports against officials for the period 2019 to December 2024, for criminal offenses provided for by articles 248, 258, 259, 260, 257/a, 319/ç and 328/b of the Criminal Code ", SPAK announces.
So, the offenses mainly provided for by the articles: Article 248- Abuse of office; Article 258- Violation of equality of tender participants; 259- Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions; 257/- Concealment of assets; Article 319-ç: Passive corruption of judges, prosecutors; Article 328-b: Passive corruption in elections, etc.
The prosecution also announces that in the period 01.03.2024-30.11.2024, 146 persons were registered under investigation for criminal offenses related to corruption. Of these, 14 are high-level officials.
So far we have several names facing justice. Sali Berisha has been sent to trial, Ilir Meta is in prison, while the mayor of Tirana was recently arrested. These are the 3 most important. But it seems they will not be the only ones. According to SPAK, there are lawsuits against many other names and there may be developments from day to day. /Pamphlet
