Mass protests bring out the Prime Minister...
Citizen protests seem to have derailed Edi Rama. Thousands of citizens are filling the square in front of the Prime Minister's Office day after day, and this seems to have alarmed the Prime Minister, who is finding maneuvers and ways to get out of the situation.
Rama was in Elbasan today, the "nest of crime". The Socialist Party has historically received support in this city from gangs, which once even had MPs. Not to mention the traffickers who present themselves as businessmen who have received endless favors from the government.
During the event for the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party, the head of government attacked bloggers, influencers, and environmentalists who have opposed the project in Zvërnec and have raised corruption charges against the government.
Commenting on the reactions on social media and the stances of public figures who have supported the protest, Rama used ironic language towards influencers.
" We are shown corruption by bloggers who leave no money uncollected by showing all parts of their bodies, which I showed for free when I was young, and who do not give 1 euro in tax to the Albanian state. Those bloggers and influencers do not pay a single euro in tax ," said Rama.
The Prime Minister also rejected the calls for resignation that have been heard for days in the protests in front of the Prime Minister's Office, describing them as unfounded.
" If you are concerned about flamingos and nature, you are the first to echo the truth, not manipulations. You should be the first to verify the truth based on facts and not say we want resignation. What resignation? Resignation from the Socialist Party's mission to join Albania in the European Union? ", said the prime minister.
At another point in his speech, Rama directly mocked the protesters who have used the flamingo as a symbol of opposition to the project in Zvërnec.
" Who will come out on top for Albania? Those who think that it's enough to dress like a flamingo and be sexy and others will come after? " Rama said.
Defending the government's position, the prime minister claimed that flamingos and the area's fauna were more endangered in the past than today.
" The flamingos were waiting for guns and the villains who had the freedom to massacre anywhere there were birds and animals. The villains who had filled the sea and lakes with electric wires. They killed the fish with electric wires ," he declared.
Rama did not spare Mustafa Nano, who he once made an ambassador, but one criticism from him was enough and Rama publicly lynched him, showing the state he has fallen into.
" We are told by some traitors that some analysts and journalists who are paid with lek under their belt do not declare their salaries. They go there to Green Coast to take vacations in the middle of concrete and complain about the plight of Flamingos. Morale to me and the SP should be measured well by whoever does it. We are not perfect and without mistakes, but morale from Mustafa Nano, who came to my office, lay down there in the armchair and said 'I have no strength to deal with this country anymore, I want to go as an ambassador'. 'Okay' I said 'let's see what we can do about this.' We have had writers and poets ambassadors, poor Muçi is not Faik Konica, but I said... Muçi went to be ambassador to Switzerland, he couldn't hold an office where he was just with himself and a secretary, he couldn't do a job for the country, he left the task in the middle and comes back and shows how we should do the task and how I should do the task. Muçi shows the task, Muçi shows that oligarchs come into my office for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What are you, Muç, you are a security spy, how do you know who comes into my office. Where have you seen them, because you were also a democrat in Denbabad. When Muçi does this, count the others , "said Rama, among other things.
Rama went even further, presenting his government as protectors of nature and the public interest, while critics as manipulators of opinion.
" We are not traitors, but saviors of a country where flamingos were killed in pairs for fun ," said the prime minister.
Rama's statements come at a time when the protest over Zvërnec is moving beyond an environmental cause and is becoming a broader civic and political movement. While thousands of citizens continue to gather in front of the Prime Minister's Office and in other cities across the country, the prime minister has chosen to confront his opponents through irony and direct attacks, further intensifying the public debate about the project that has sparked the protests.
