For two days, Erion Veliaj has been distributing news of his meetings as the chairman of the Socialist Party of Tirana. On Sunday alone, Veliaj distributed more than 4 news prepared by his staff, which clearly indicated a new development in the majority.
Veliaj, did not wait a minute for the new movements of Edi Rama, to promote Blendi Gonxhe, and preceded the developments, gathering the structures of the SP outside of any political context. Since there was no meeting of the leadership of the SP or the National Assembly to call for the local structures to start the electoral battle of the 2025 elections.
Erion Veliaj, in the news produced by him, wanted to convey the message that he can no longer compete as mayor of Tirana, as he has fulfilled the legal limit of 3 mandates, so now he will fight for Edi Rama to take the mandate fourth. When officially, Rama has not declared in any of his official statements that he will seek his fourth mandate.
Maybe for the SP, but he has not said so far that he wants to remain prime minister for a fourth term.
Why then is Erin Veliaj coming out publicly to make it a fact that the leadership of the SP of Tirana is done, when no one has confirmed it?
Actually, Erion Veliaj today is an elected official of the majority who is experiencing the last mandate at the head of the municipality of Tirana.
Unlike Edi Rama, when in the third term he ran for SP chairman, or Lulzim Basha, who was the leader of the DP in half of his only term as mayor of Tirana; Veliaj does not yet know what he will do when he grows up. Because not only have they not indicated it, but also an important part of the majority does not like it.
Edi Rama knows this, so he made two strong moves. He has brought two new names to the government, Blendi Gonxhe and Igli Hasan.
Gonxhe is already known to be a character close to Edi Rama, who grew up with him throughout the entire political trajectory, while Igli Hasani, the Foreign Minister, is a person very close to Pandeli Majko. Who gave the membership card to Erion Veliaj.
Until a while ago, Majko was a close man of the mayor, as he served as the political leader of the most important area of Tirana, which is unit 5. The most populated and which is the vote barn of the SP.
Today, Majko seems to have moved strongly and indicated a person close to him as a political representative.
Although he has been a foreign minister for a short time, Igli Hasani is being promoted by important journalists who are pro-majority. This also happens as a result of the lobbying of powerful people near the socialist party, but it seems that Edi Rama himself is aiming for promotion. Because it clearly seems that both Blendi Gonxhe and Igli Hasani are not just ministers but political leaders of the SP. Who will take important areas, which today cover other people.
Gonxhe is expected to take the leadership of the Tirana district, and this has been said several times by Edi Rama. Even the new Minister of Economy has announced this in an interview with Luan Rama.
Therefore, the impromptu meetings on Sunday and the widespread news of Veliaj in the media are a strong signal to Edi Rama, to tell him that even though I cannot become mayor, I will be the head of SP Tirana. There is no place here for Gonxha or Hasan.
But this is only the first move, because very soon the "witch" of Rama will appear on the stage, namely the deputy. Prime Minister Balluku who sees Igli Hasan as her threat in the North.
Hasani will probably take the place of Pandeli Majko as the head of Kukës district, where Belinda has strong ties and wants to keep Kukës as well as Dibra.
Otherwise, he threatened to seek Tirana. In this 'state of war', it is not at all surprising that others, from Taulant Balla, Damian Gjiknuri or even Blendi Klosi, leave the advancement of figures who have been catapulted.
We are really in a 'civil war', which has just started, but which is irreversible. Edi Rama knows this and is aiming not to soften him, but to encourage him to produce a new movement, to give the SP, another chance of protagonism.
