The euro started the week losing points against the Albanian lek. The intervention of the Bank of Albania does not seem to have dampened this trend, regardless of the fact that last week there was a stabilization of the exchange rate. Currently, one euro is being exchanged at around 103.6 lek from around 105 that it reached last week, losing around 1.4 points. It is learned that only in the last few days the Bank of Albania has bought 18 million euros, while in total since the beginning of the year they have withdrawn from the market a total of 188 million euros.
The experts of the foreign exchange market point out that it is necessary to wait a few days to see the trend and the effect of the latest intervention. However, expectations remain dim at a time when we are at the peak of the tourist season.
During August, the largest flow of foreign tourists and also of Albanian emigrants who come to Albania are marked, significantly increasing the flow of euros that are in the market.
In total, it is expected that during the year 2023, around 300 million euros will be purchased, while earlier a band of 160-220 million euros was planned from the domestic market in order to increase the reserve.
The analyzes of the Bank of Albania show that the reasons for the strengthening of the exchange rate of the lek in the domestic foreign exchange market are related to the economic performance of the country, the increase of foreign investments and the purchase of real estate by foreigners.
