The Minister of Economy Delina Ibrahimaj spoke about the devaluation of the euro in our country.
Invited to the show "Now" on "Euronews Albania", she said that they have held meetings with the associations that are most affected by this phenomenon and are in talks to find a solution.
She further said that they have taken measures to speed up the VAT refund in the shortest possible time.
" We have seriously followed all recent developments regarding the strengthening of the lek or the devaluation of the euro or the effects this has had on our economy. We have met with the associations that have been affected by the devaluation of the euro and we have worked together on the measures that the government can take to find a solution. Following the meetings we have had, we have decided to take measures to be as close as possible to the exporters. We have taken measures so that the acceleration of the VAT refund is as short as possible. We are worried about this category of businesses but also about their performance for the next few years because they are losing money. Expenses are in Lek and income is in Euro. This means that income is lower compared to expenses ," she said.
Asked about the measures they will take for pensioners, she emphasized that they cannot take measures to subsidize some categories in need due to the effects of the current course.
" What we have done for businesses is a postponement of prepayment profit installments for businesses, considering the fact that this year these entities will not make a profit. The flexibility of exchange rates is a policy that has been chosen by the Bank of Albania that has been very effective and has helped us to cope with crises throughout the last years where our economy has been affected by the earthquake, the pandemic and the recent price increase. It is not possible for us to take measures to subsidize some categories in need for the effects of the course that we judge to be natural impacts of economic development and are not impacts of a moment and not of a crisis. The exchange rate will stabilize at a lower level than the average that has been in the last two or three years ," said Ibrahimaj.
