According to the latest data from Eurostat, analyzed by ``Scan Intel'', it turns out that Albanians are the third in Europe for the importance of entertainment and culture in the economy. The consumption of Albanian families for this item is equal to 6.2% of the Gross Domestic Product of our country. This rate in Europe is higher in only two countries; Iceland and Croatia, respectively with 7.1% and 7.4%. The average of the European Union in terms of the share of entertainment and culture in the economy is fixed at 4.8%.

The average of the candidate countries is fixed at 4.6%, while in the region our closest follower is Serbia, with a rate close to 4.8%. Ireland with a rate close to 1.6% and Luxembourg close to 2.7% are the European countries with the lowest rate. Despite the fact that this indicator is closely related to the size of the economy, it directly shows the entertainment expenses of a given economy in relation to the capacities it has as an economy.

But how much do we spend in total on entertainment and culture? The same data from Eurostat, referring to the year 2022, show that this expenditure affects the value of 1.1 billion euros per year, almost 3 times higher than North Macedonia and 4 times higher than Montenegro. Meanwhile, per capita, an average Albanian spends about 396 euros per year for entertainment and culture, or about 33 euros per month. This value places us among the last countries in Europe but also in the region, as both Serbia and Montenegro register a value of over 400 euros per capita per year. The average of the European Union for the same item meanwhile is fixed at around 1600 euros per year.

But the significant distance with the European Union is also related to the difference in prices, since in Albania the prices for the sound of entertainment and culture are only 60.5% of the prices in the European Union. If the prices in Albania were the same as in the European Union, then this expenditure for an Albanian would reach 946 euros per year. Even stripping it of the price difference, it still has a significant distance with Europe.

But, as we underlined above, despite the fact that per capita we spend and consume less than an average European for entertainment and culture, in relation to the capacity of the country's economy, and therefore also the family economy, we are the third in Europe.

On the other hand, if we look back, we see that in the years 2015-2019, Albania was the first in Europe in terms of spending on entertainment and culture in relation to the country's Gross Domestic Product. While today this rate in our country is fixed at 6.2%, during the period 2015-2019 it was close to 10%, and in a significant increase compared to previous years. With the pandemic, the downward trends seem to have returned.

This radical change in indicators, from 1.6% in 2014 to 9.8% in 2015, seems to be the result of methodological changes or the lack of quality indicators of our Institute of Statistics. / Scan
