The head of the Democratic Party of Himara, Afrovita Dhimojani, was lynched by the deputies of the Democratic Party in the shows, after the public opposition to the candidacy of Petro Gjikuri as a candidate for the municipality of Himara.
According to the positions of the deputies, but also the media supporters who speak in the panels, the head of the Democratic Party of Himara made the statement without consulting and without understanding the "global situation".
In fact, this attitude shows that not only last year, but also in the elections of August 4, in Himarë there is not a battle for the municipality of an area, where not even 8 thousand voters have voted, but a political artifice between Tirana and Athens. A political artifice, where the opposition of Sali Berisha, Ilir Meta and Vangjel Dules have aligned themselves with Athens.
And while Athens has sent to Himar, the leader of one of the most extremist political groups such as the Panepiriote Federation, the majority is running a high-level politician like Vangjel Tavo, who is a Greek ethnic minority from the Dropulli area.
Vangjel Tavo, however, has many differences with his rival Petro Gjikuria. Although he has had good relations over the years in Athens, but also with such organizations in the USA as the Panepiriot Federation, he has never been an extremist Greek nationalist. To use contexts that in Albania are considered provocations, such as Vorio-Epiri, or other territorial claims.
Meanwhile, Gjikuria, even though as a person he has a past with which he could represent the Albanian opposition well, as he was persecuted during communism, grew up in exile, etc., he comes to this battle, not as an opposition politician. Albanian, but a representative of the extremist Greek nationalist lobby in the US.
Immigrated to Greece early on, and then to the USA, where being from Dhermiu, served the Panepiriot Federation more to use its discourse that Himara is Greek, giving Gjikuria an "ethnic Greek" identity rather than a Greek-Albanian one . And in this political battle that takes place at the height of the tourist season in an area that is full of vacationers, Gjikuria comes not as a Greek-Albanian, but as a Greek-American.
As much as the discussion or the political clash will have enough subjects for the properties and the construction of the tourist infrastructure in Himare, to bring with it many dissatisfied from that area, basically it has nothing to do with the issues of the municipality.
A possible victory of Gjikuria, as it happened with Beleri, will be considered a triumph of the Himariots who have Greece as their mother, as Fredi Beleri said in the Maximos palace in Athens before Mitsotakis.
A loss of him, that is, the political leaders of the Panepiros, will be considered by Athens, the political circles and the media there as a repetition of the manipulation that happened with Beleri according to them.
However, a victory of Vangjel Tavos will not be considered as the victory of an ethnic Greek at the head of a municipality, where the Albanians do not consider him Greek, but it is likely that they will punish him like Gjegji (Jorgo) Goron, who was stripped of his citizenship with a state ceremony.
However, the chances are that they will not reach this far, since an ethnic Greek with nationality and citizenship, it is not so easy to remove the papers as a "homogeneous" who is not Greek, even his first name is Gjergji.
In fact, that removal of citizenship is an act that shows how false is the policy of giving letters to the "homogen", which has included how many people have become Quichos.
But the strategic damage that has been done in Himara, making a "Greek tragedy" a rule there, is much greater than the tactical movements of the opposition and the majority.
In the calendars of Athens, Himara will always continue to be considered one of the bases of Vorio-Epirus, where political and financial support for their Trojan horses will be nurtured. In the case of Beleri, they seem to have proved that the strong nationalism of the coastal villages was broken, since in the past elections it turned out that they prefer to vote for these Albanian parties and not for the Greeks.
A year ago, either in Borsh or in the villages of Labëria, this did not happen. Of course, there were few, since the battle is fought there for a few votes, but Athens has set an important milestone. About which he will speak and act in the future. To create the "southern association" which geographically are three municipalities connected to each other: Himara, Finiqi and Dropulli.
