The director of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, accused the Kosovo authorities on Saturday of having "planted" the weapons found in the action in the north of Kosovo on June 23.
In a press conference, Petkovic said that the weapons, which the Kosovo Police found near the Municipality of Zveçan, were confiscated earlier in the actions for the disarmament of citizens in Kosovo.
The Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, said on June 23 that "a terrorist attack was prevented", thanks to the intensive engagement of the special units of the Kosovo Police.
According to him, about 100 meters from the municipality of Zveçan, a car with Belgrade license plates was identified, which had large quantities of weapons, explosive devices and ammunition.
He also published some pictures of weapons on the social network, Facebook.
"This is also a proof that Serbia, through such groups and organizations, aims to destabilize our country", said Sveçla, among other things.
According to Petković, the Serbian authorities notified the foreign services on June 20 - without mentioning exactly which ones - that Kosovo is preparing new operations to arrest Serbs in the north.
"In this plan, members of the Kosovo police are transporting illegal weapons and ammunition, which in the previous period they confiscated from citizens of Serbian and Albanian nationality, from all substations of the Kosovo Police. Their goal is to use the mentioned weapons for new arrests of Serbs or to store them in the north and then allegedly find and accuse the Serbs," said Petkovic.
Petkovic also said that the license plate of the car, in which the weapons were found, expired in 2020.
He has warned that the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučić, will declare on this issue in the next 24 hours. Tensions in the north of Kosovo have been high since May 26.
On that day, the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - entered the municipal buildings, with the help of Kosovo Police units. The local Serbs have opposed something like this and as a result there have been continuous protests. The international community has called on Kosovo and Serbia to urgently take measures to reduce tensions.
