The American Department of State (DASH) has again asked Kosovo and Serbia to take urgent and concrete steps to de-escalate the situation, as well as to return to the dialogue mediated by the European Union. DASH has emphasized that the United States and the European Union are very clear about their expectations from both sides.
" We continue to call on Serbia and Kosovo to take urgent, concrete steps to de-escalate tensions. This includes the unconditional release of three Kosovo police officers detained in Serbia", says a DASH response to the Voice of America (in Serbian).
Furthermore, the US Department of State says that "both sides should follow the plan proposed by the European Union and return without delay to the dialogue mediated by the EU".
The head of the EU's foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said yesterday that he is very alarmed by the situation in the north of Kosovo.
He has strongly criticized Kosovo, reacting after the new arrests by the Kosovo Police against suspects of violence against KFOR and after the regular march of the Kosovo Army in southern Mitrovica. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and Foreign Minister Donika Gërvalla responded to this rhetoric, who say that the arrest of Serbs in the north was made in accordance with the law.
