Teacher Gëzim Basha who lives and works in the USA has criticized the former US diplomat for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Grenell, as the latter said that he has no sensitivity to the wounds of the past.
Basha said that officials like Grenell, with their lack of sensitivity to ethnic cleansing, mass graves, the list of the disappeared and rape, discredit American diplomacy by emboldening tyrants like Vucic.
" In an interview with B. Buzhala, the former special envoy of President Trump for mediation between Pristina and Belgrade, R. Grenell, considering the Kosovo War, said, "Unlike you, I am completely insensitive to the past but emotional towards the future.”
If Grenell had made such a statement in Jerusalem, the next morning would have found him outside Israel as a person unwanted, and the American media would have crucified him as an individual with no morals and no sensitivity to the Holocaust. Further, Grenell justified his attitude by saying that he was not born and did not grow up in the region, and he does not have the same emotions as his interlocutor, or even others.
"I was not born here. I don't have the same emotions as you and others. I have full respect for that, and I would probably go so far as to say that you probably understand the situation a lot better than I do, but there is value in getting people who aren't emotionally attached to look from the future. So, am I going to do things that make you uncomfortable, because you're looking back and saying, “Wait a minute. You don't know what they or anyone did"? I understand that, I respect that, and I don't want to sound dismissive of that, but I want you to understand that I have a utility, and that you should look at the utility that I bring to the table, and that is: me I am unemotional about the past and very emotional about the future.” he said.
