The public deception of Meloni's deputy becomes even more revolting when you see the terrible statistics of how Italy is ignored by third countries from which asylum seekers come, leaving these immigrants at her door.
The scene takes place this Wednesday on the news channel Euronews Albania. I finished there a long analysis where I drew attention to the impossibility that both Italy and Albania will have to repatriate to their countries of origin the immigrants that Meloni is bringing based on the agreement with Rama.
This impossibility that I described is not an opinion but a fact based on what France and a number of European countries, including Italy, are doing today to send back to their countries asylum seekers who are denied asylum but who do not want to return to their places. Forced return is impossible for one major reason in Europe today: a person cannot board a plane, ship or any type of means of transport that crosses international borders without a passport or consular permit. Where do these unfortunate countries come from that have understood this trick and deliberately do not give these citizens their passports, thus turning them into a kind of stateless people since an asylum seeker does not automatically seek asylum with the passport of the country that has torn it.
Right behind me appears on the screen of Euronews Albania the Italian member of Meloni's Fratelli d'Italia, Sara Kwlany. Without wasting a second, the show asks her what she thinks about the impasse that I presented that these immigrants will remain at Albania's door, unable to repatriate. In the most confident tones, Meloni's deputy says: "Listen, this is how it has been working in Italy for a long time. At the moment when the subject is identified from where he comes from, the place he comes from will be forced to host the subject again".
This is pure bluff, not to mention public deception. No country from which these asylum seekers come has the obligation to take them back. Or because they are countries that do not like the West and have no interest in cooperating with the West, such as Syria, Afghanistan, or Algeria that has left its immigrants at France's door. Or there are countries where there is no country to negotiate with to take them back, eg Somalia, the Gaza Strip, or whole parts of Yemen.
The public deception of Meloni's deputy becomes all the more revolting when you see the terrible statistics of how Italy is ignored by third countries from which asylum seekers come, leaving these immigrants at her door. Here's how Meloni's deputy is bluffed by the well-known "Times" in London on Italy's well-known statistics on the non-return of immigrants, a problem that Italy is now transferring to Albania: "Will Giorgia Meloni's new immigrant centers work in Albania ? It is not easy…because requests for repatriation are often ignored by countries of origin. “(…) During the five years before the Covid-19 pandemic, Italy managed to return few migrants to their countries: Only 24% of arrivals returned to Tunisia, 13% to Nigeria and 7% to Bangladesh. The repatriation rate for Mali and Guinea was only 1%".
And France has long sounded the alarm on this problem because France itself fails to return more than 7% of illegal immigrants to their countries! Yesterday, the daily Le Monde, like Time, gave the dedication of an insurmountable phenomenon at the European level with these words: "Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the Commission, announced that Brussels will propose new legislation to facilitate the deportation of persons in an irregular situation". "(…) Less than 20% of the decisions to expel immigrants in an irregular situation are implemented today in all EU countries", Ursula von der Leyen further underlined, promising strengthened cooperation with third countries in words, eg by tightening the granting of visas to rebel countries.
So, when Europe itself, the first economic and diplomatic power in the world cannot "defeat" third countries to take back their citizens clandestinely in Europe, only an Edi Ramë can believe that Albania will succeed to send them back where they come from. If Italy could manage to send them back, then why does it bring them to Albania? To leave them there for the rest of their lives! And Edi Rama knew this...
