Ervin Salianji, Evi Kokalari, and Alesia Balliu would have found it much easier to exercise their political ambition to lead the opposition if they did not support the tale of Re-establishment after the US Non Grata.
The battle to reform and modernize the DP would create the most favorable conditions for a dynamic political life with somewhat freer democratic competition rules. However, what was done cannot be undone, and the Democratic Party is today in a process of impasse caused by years and years of retrograde movement, adapting to Sali Berisha's criminal problems.
The race for the new "mayor" is actually a virtual illusion, since the conditions for a normal competition, even if they existed, would not be able to be implemented thanks to the pressure and heavy shadow of Sali Berisha. However, as the proverb says "when you don't have chicken, you will eat crow", even the candidates to rival the doctor have undertaken to concretize their will to compete for the chairmanship of the DP.
If nothing else these initiatives bring, they are an attempt to drain the political swamp with the stagnant water of Albanian politics. An attempt that first opens a log, a discussion or topic of debate and discussion in this very important environment for political life in the country.
Ervin Salijanji's meetings in several important cities in the country offered a completely different political panorama in numbers, quantity, quality and message in the discourse of the Democratic Party. They provided a panorama where there were more people, a visible quality of participation, as well as a normal discussion outside the psychic streams of the doctor's parody-type pulpits.
That is to say, they offered a political message, showing that what they commonly call, even misusing the term "opposition people" is more clear-headed, more oriented and more engaged than the detachment of the blue headquarters dome. In this case, the battle of the three "rivals" of Sali Berisha, has the chance to bring new dynamism to the opposition political environment.
If the candidates' public meetings are actually held with DP members in the territory, they will publicly test the behavior of the Berisha establishment regarding the mayoral race. On the other hand, if the campaign is courageous, capillary and without complexes, it can bring about a greater involvement of the membership to enter the elections of other party levels, while also being guardians of the standards of the race not only for mayor.
Also, if the battle of the "rivals" will be active and real at least in discourse, it is the opportunity to give the environment new ideas and visions to create a political alternative to the majority of Edi Rama. The public, especially the opposition, is oversaturated with the slogans of "uprisings", "technical governments" or "revolutions".
He wants to know what the opposition's ideas are for justice reform, territorial reform, new election rules, and even the way of governance, the ideas of a new right. If this battle is qualitative and well-thought-out, even if they do not manage to win over Sali Berisha, the effect on the public will be considerable. It is even likely to remove the relevance of Berisha's plan to handle the campaign to refresh his over-cycled political portrait. It is a test and a chance, which if wasted or not handled with special care can finally remove the opposition public's hope for a new DP to take over the country.
