Albania is being persistently asked for a political-social-economic change. Corruption is showing the country with great shortcomings, while the loss of hope from the political class is materialized with the mass departure of Albanians. Even though we are halfway through the Socialists' third mandate, which means that they are waiting for two more years of their leadership, the present is showing that Albania has a big disparity between what is shown and what is shown, and what is in reality. But the biggest pain is that this stage is not producing an intellectual thought, or better to say that there is no space where a national elite can find itself and express itself.
The topic of an elite and the need to change from it is becoming almost screaming. However, we still have a long way to go. School, individuals, society, lack of meritocracy and politics have put the pickaxe on everything. In quite a few cases, even Civil Society Organizations are seen to be channeled according to interests, while it seems that elaborate scientific thinking to precede the country's developments is naturally missing. The Academy of Sciences cannot anticipate the developments of the country. There is a continental consolation, because the lack of the elite or its activity is also seen in countries where there were schools of thought, there are still powerful universities and we still have individuals of high levels.
Above all, today's Albanian elite, or what it says, is not finding its space of freedom, how to express and defend this concept. Furthermore, it cannot influence an indifferent public. You don't read. Apathetic.
This is also due to the fact that today's elite flirts openly with today's socialist government, while the autocracy of power and the concentration of everything under its dome has suffocated everything. The concern grows that those who could contribute have largely fled and are preparing to flee, regardless of age; others in the neighboring countries seem to be separating naturally with Albania (Kosovo and Albania hardly agree to make common texts because of differences); the political elite is only aware of where Rama or Berisha's interest comes from and they don't care about the ideas they can generate depending on their inclinations.
In short, it is the elite with titles, but far from being labeled the real potential elite; The other elite that comes out of the universities does not represent the meritocracy (if there was ever Vetting there the whole university corps would tremble). Paradoxically: the lack of fair competition, but also the introduction of politics in many appointments, apart from sense, where the non-respect of the laws for catapulted scientific gradations and the lack of a hierarchy of honor puts us far behind the character of our school and dignity in the time of socialism!!
And, not only in us: "We are facing the spectacular failure of the Western intellectual elite, which cannot understand what, in the first place, are its freedoms and, subsequently. How can he protect them", said the British writer Ian McEwan in a contemporary interview.
But it seems that the culprits, today, are also us as a public, since we all seem to think that we should create a utopia for dignity and meritocracy. It's just that the utopia that accompanied us before the 90s led us to the chaos that we are still suffering today, and plunged the continent into unprecedented massacres. At least, when you look at our parliament and those who go up there, you realize that even the semi-utopia they offer us is unrealizable. Those who believe in this semi-utopia are even more frightening, and this is also the case of our elite, which unfortunately is getting lost in the maze of the impossible and the sea of corruption. Albania cannot make the political-social-economic change properly...at least with this elite.
