Button-down radicalism of the end of July in Parliament

In what happened in the Parliament in the last sessions, it is the attempt of a DP group that is not even in the pulpit, but that has distanced itself from their party, and thus they think to win the hearts of the radical electorate...

The political tension in the scorching days of the end of July is not an Albanian innovation. It has already turned into a political rite, which without fear can turn into a phenomenon of political history.

Which turns on and off like a button, according to the temperature and political interests of the day. Basically, this is quite normal, it also happens in Western Parliaments that political forces, mainly the opposition ones, are triggered by the developments of the day to inflame the situation and shake public opinion. Demanding a strong account from the government, with a definitely raised tone, with a high oratorical tempo, but there is a difference in what happens in the countries where we want to go with Albania.

Because there, apart from the tempo of high tones, the opposition takes the opportunity to present itself not only as a critic and challenger of the government, but brings its own ideas, its own model, and of course completes the profile of its leadership in the Parliament, to bring it to the next events as an alternative to govern the country.

But the opposition does not happen to stop and block the Assembly. Parliament does not belong to the government, as the government is the administrator of the country, of the budget, of the executive institutions. A deadlock in Parliament doesn't hurt the government at all, except it gives a theatrical performance to boost the scores of a few individuals. Quite a legitimate thing, but political theatricality has its own measure, time and logic. Metaphor and good speech hits better than aggressiveness. The argument, but in the first place the political model hits more than blocking the pulpit.

That otherwise everything turns into the opposite of what is done, but also gives doses of tragicomedy. As happened today in the Parliament, when Sali Berisha was talking about Edi Rama's house, while he lives the summer in the fabulous villa of Gjiri i Lalzi together with his colonels, where they also have their paradise created during the "marshal's" government.

In a practical sense, it is not that the opposition MPs do not know all these things, but as it happens in Albania, things are done more as a form than as a content, more for today than for tomorrow.

In what happened in the Parliament in the last sessions, it is the attempt of a DP group that is not even in the pulpit, but that has distanced itself from their party, and thus they think to win the hearts of the radical electorate.

Gazmend Bardhi requested Edi Rama in the Assembly with an urgent procedure, and the majority answered that he will come later and not with an urgent procedure. Politically, if he knows how to use this fact, Gazmend Bardhi has won, even better than debating with Edi Rama, where of course there would be no debate, but as often happens, the session or the floor of the Assembly would be blocked.

Whether, in other words, politically Gazmend Bardhi has won a point in his battle, he asked the prime minister, he did not present it to you.

There is a golden opportunity to say what Edi Rama has to say in the session, either in the Assembly or in public. Let him do that interpellation at a distance, giving the public the chance to get a new perspective on the opposition, its ideas, and the way it controls and contests the government.

Of course, that measure is scary and not controlled, as it is not known how it will behave, but at least it changes strongly. Every EU country allows every citizen to live temporarily or for a long time, where they are. And we who have to become a member of the EU, we have to do it first. Let the opposition start with this great reform, and open the doors to everyone who wants to enter politics. Chances are they aren't sure about it, but they want to play with the same schemes, the same noises, the same push-button theatrics. And that every end of July before the holidays start are already common...
