If things were to function on a meritocratic basis, people like Jorida Tabaku and Ilir Alimehmeti should have been among the first selected, as two experts who do honor to politics with a competently created and consistently proven public image.
Sad news: the close race between Tabaku and Alimehmet is being won by the former. It's sad not because the economist is entering parliament, but because the doctor's door is being closed.

The news becomes even sadder because it reminds us of the lack of meritocracy, not just within the ranks of a political party like the DP.
Whether I'm wrong, we lack meritocracy in all areas, starting from the state and moving on to civil society, and even the private sector, which, for a good part of the time, operates on a clientelistic basis.
We have been and remain a backward country, a people that caught the train of history at the last moment. This happened with the declaration of independence, then with the fall of the totalitarian system and, after some luck, the democratic transformations are also happening to us.
Historically late, always at the end. And one of the main reasons for this proverbial backwardness is that we have always functioned based on tribal interests and have trampled on competition, competition, meritocracy. In a word, we have put and continue to put donkeys before horses.
We still have nepotistic and clan connections as our primary function.
