In recent days, online media has been flooded with news that the Albanian Radio Television (RTSH) is on the brink of collapse. The public media, our common property, has collapsed due to debts accumulated from mismanagement and the constant plundering of its leaders, who have seen this institution as a means for quick personal enrichment.
In fact, the collapse of RTSH has begun gradually and has deepened in recent years, but the fatal blow was dealt by Alfred Peza. I, together with journalist Denisa Plaka, were among the first to file a complaint with SPAK about the serious abuses in RTSH and we warned of the collapse that the current director Eni Vasili and the RTSH Steering Council are now witnessing.
The damage from illegal dismissals alone is estimated at 1.8 million euros, a bill that is expected to increase in the coming months. Meanwhile, unpaid bills since 2023 further aggravate the situation, even jeopardizing RTSH's participation in Eurovision.
This crisis is not accidental. One side accuses the current director of not paying them for their work for 5 months, while the other side claims that the accusers have inflated the bills of the broadcast projects with a tendency to steal RTSH funds and deepen the collapse of the public media.
We were among the first to respond to the abuse of office and corruption in the public property of RTSH by filing a lawsuit with SPAK. But the roots of this "crisis" are deeper than they seem. They are deliberately letting RTSH degrade in order to depreciate and bankrupt it and to rob it of the much coveted land, to give life to the tower construction project that has been sleeping in the drawers of the oligarchs for years.
Which state does not pay employees' salaries, does not respect contracts and does not legally pursue thieves? RTSH is not the private property of politicians or oligarchs, it is the heritage of the Albanian nation. Let's not allow it to be turned into ruins for dirty interests!
