As expected, Sali Berisha did not recognize the results of the May 11 elections. In fact, he has announced a protest on May 16. This is an old habit of Albanian politics, but especially of the Democratic Party in the last three races. A rhetoric that has already tired the Albanian Democrats themselves who see themselves for the fourth time in a row in the opposition. This time the loss was dramatic, as was actually predicted for many reasons. But more dramatic than the loss is the lack of will to reflect and change what can be done better for the future.
Sali Berisha and the Democratic Party blame the whole world for the loss, except for its own behavior. The media is to blame for the Democratic Party's loss, Altin Dumani is, analysts are, and even Albanians who do not vote for Edi Rama are to blame, but Sali Berisha is not the only one to blame.
The behavior of the Democratic Party in these elections was a typical example, to be written in a political manual, of how to do everything to lose a race. The Democratic Party had as its candidate for prime minister a person who has been in politics for 35 years and who leads that party, like no other country in Europe and most likely in the world. But it is not to blame and there is no reason to reflect on the result. The Democratic Party lists resembled the lists of the 2000s, people who were purged and returned as candidates for deputies, or people who do not inspire any trust and no spirit for change. And yet, again in the DP no one puts a finger on their head to think or reflect. Wherever there were young, hardworking and dignified people, such as in Kavaja and the Lezha Region, the Democratic Party won. While in most cases there were people whose only criterion was loyalty to Berisha and nothing more.
Why Berisha does not recognize any responsibility and does not blame himself for the decisions he has made is understandable. It is clear that he will close any discussion in this regard and continue to be the chairman of the Democratic Party. Even the protest he has called has exactly this goal. To close any discussion and remove any responsibility for the loss. What is not understood is the fact that no one from the Democratic Party, from the deputies who were elected or candidates for deputies, from political leaders or people in public opinion close to the Democratic Party, has the courage to make even a small criticism of Sali Berisha and his decisions.
Even though the DP has received the worst result in its history, no one has the courage to say a single word. Everyone is sitting silently, waiting for their leader's decisions, behaving like people who neither think nor have character nor understand.
This relationship, in fact, the relationship that the Democrats have with Sali Berisha is not explained politically but only psychologically. Because it is incredible how they forgive every mistake of Berisha, how they sacrificed everything for his rehabilitation and suffered a dramatic loss, and yet they have no criticism against him. It is to be admired how a single person has imposed himself on them for 35 years not only politically, but also psychologically. And these signs are visible today, when everyone will continue to follow him until the Democratic Party is extinguished with the political extinction of Sali Berisha. Apparently these people consider the Democratic Party not a political party but the house and private property of Sali Berisha and do not have the courage to tell him that you should leave. Maybe they are right! How can you tell the owner, get out of your property!
