The new parties did not increase their participation even in the only district

The old parties received a full 50 thousand fewer votes than in 2021, with the biggest decline being suffered by PD+LSI+PDIU+ etc. with 31 thousand votes.

Since 1991, the population of Albania has gradually decreased. Meanwhile, the population of Tirana County has gradually increased from year to year. And in a county whose population increases every year, it is expected that participation in parliamentary elections will increase every four years. Even more so when the political scene has new parties, which claim to attract voters disappointed by the old parties such as PS, PD, LSI, PSD, PDIU, etc.

But the results of the local votes in the Tirana district on May 11 (excluding the diaspora) show that participation in the elections not only did not increase, but decreased. Specifically, only 450 thousand local voters voted on May 11, out of 485 thousand who voted in 2021 – a decrease of 35 thousand participants.

The old parties received a full 50 thousand fewer votes than in 2021, with the biggest decline being suffered by PD+LSI+PDIU+ etc. with 31 thousand votes.

Meanwhile, the new parties only added 17,000 votes, failing to make up for the deficit of the old parties. (Some new parties from four years ago did not compete at all on May 11, being replaced by newer parties).
