On the side of the road I can see, almost finished, the new highway that will also be called 'Corridor Eight', the segment from Mamurrasi to Kashar and beyond. It awakened in me the same feeling that 'prehistoric' people, such as Minella and Meti, have awakened in me with the great works.
Not yesterday, the day before yesterday, a small news appeared on fb; and then no word. Minella Papakostandini has passed away!
I have been waiting since that day that maybe there will be news and more than news. Now I'm thinking maybe it's not news time for these kinds of people. And why are they needed? Minella Papakostandini remained in his world and his world hardened while he was still alive. Now nobody cares, other interests are in the field. Maybe they are interests without points of interest, but I have no right to say. I can only say why this kind of man has become a 'stone'; it doesn't even seem to have ever breathed. Minella, the day when our whole country was electrified, 1972, was only 40 years old. Neither were the others, who designed and built hydropower plants.
But Minella and Met Dervina were placed at the two ends of the gigantic work of electrification: Met at the starting point, Minella at the end point. Meti, a short and silent man, loaded the turbine of the hydropower plant at the Port of Durrës and took it to Fierza; but how? Three months road to the Gray sector; with two trailers behind his car, on a road as narrow as a waterfall, newly built by volunteer forces. Now that road is paved with asphalt, on the side there are hotels and farms for tourism...
Where is Matt? Apparently this is not the time for that. Not even for Minella Papakostandino. Minella is of the last hour of light. While the hydropower plants were being built on the Drin, a factory was set up in Tirana to design and build the high voltage poles. Engineer Minella did this. What I'm interested in is this: Do you think this is what will happen to the great things that have been done so far? Are you saying that the metal poles of high voltage, which guard the mountains and fields day and night, today look like giant stalagmites and stalactites of a deep time? Or maybe they will look like part of the mountain, as if the day the mountain was born, it was born along with the electric pole. Perhaps it will be taken for granted that 'God made these'. Maybe it won't be like that either, because these works have not been declared 'blessed' until now, like for example the temples of Zeus or Artemis. No, these works were cursed soon after 1991. The other works were burned or crushed, only these 'dinosaurs' survived. The others that were defeated were small, they were schools, farms, factories, plants...
While these survived only because they were big, very big and could not eat them. How, for example, they saved the dams of the hydropower plants. Even the dams were saved, not because they didn't think of breaking them in the middle and flooding the 'enemies' from the Drini and below. This also occurred to them. But they couldn't, because they were scared by the greatness. Even the high voltage poles were attacked; some of them were blown up by the militants of the Democratic Party that 'brought freedom and happiness'. The broken pillars remained as mutilated mythological creatures in the mountains. From now on, perhaps, what has been saved, will be sanctified. The pillars of Minella have been saved forever. Perhaps this is why the engineer dared to leave them, that is, to leave his 'own creatures' safe and go to heaven. Minella, like the lines, was cursed. Why? Why did he build such great and indestructible things?
Then he built them during communism (!). This curse will never come off. Not simply from those who at that time were in prisons and did not have the opportunity to become communists; but more of the vile part of the communists made. Between these two categories that now stand as if on a common stage, that is, against the lines and dams, there is a difference: Those in the prisons would like to turn back time, make Komani square and take the glory for themselves. The worst are the latter who would never like hydro plants or electric lamps. A people of light binds them and leaves them unable to do evil again.
Here's why.
