The "American" dream of the opposition against Edi Rama

For the umpteenth time, the McGonigal case is being pursued, a legal process that has been exhausted in the US, due to the former senior FBI agent's Russian connections, for which he is serving a sentence.

It seems as if the opposition has no other hope to overthrow Edi Rama than the US. Even though the government has no problem with the US on its agenda, on the contrary, it has very good relations, the attempt to raise the expectation that he will "end up with the US" is both ridiculous and paradoxical for the opposition, which in fact continues to blame the US for its situation.

For the umpteenth time, the McGonigal case is being pursued, a legal process that has been exhausted in the US, due to the former senior FBI agent's Russian connections, for which he is serving a sentence.

All the details of McGonigal's ties to Albania have long been made public and were repeated in the latest report released the day before, without any new developments. The former FBI agent, in the case of Albania, is accused of violating the FBI's code of ethics by not declaring meetings with the Albanian prime minister in Tirana, since they were private meetings.

The stories of his relationships with a former State Security employee before the 1990s are also relationships between two American citizens that are treated under American laws. That's the funny side of the problem.

The paradox is that the entire four-year battle of the opposition, since 2021 when Sali Berisha was declared "non grata", is directed against American influence in Albania, against their "involvement" in Albania's internal affairs, and they have waged an exemplary battle to be envied as sovereignists against the USA.

Now, this dream of theirs that the US will punish Edi Rama since they cannot overthrow him, in addition to showing their powerlessness, also refutes their entire four-year "sovereignty" battle against the US, precisely for what they are now asking the US for regarding their troubles with Edi Rama.

To be more serious, they should come together once, declare that their battle against the US was a big mistake, admit that Albania's only hope is the US, and then ask them to punish Edi Rama.
The most severe punishment that the US gives to a leader of an allied country when he is not in line with the US is the declaration of "non grata": what Sali Berisha has received. In this case, they should determine what punishment to give Edi Rama. There is no punishment higher than "non grata".

But, as we said, Berisha's "brilliant" battle against the US has devalued this status in Albania. For four years he turned it into a medal and boasted about it. He even dedicates his political revival at the age of 80 to it.
Now, this dream of theirs that the US will punish Rama and equalize him with Berisha in relation to America is a legitimate dream, but it is not enough to make them equal before the Albanians.

So the best thing would be for them to take a stand for once about their battle with the US. Condemn it or apologize for injecting anti-Americanism into Albania and return to normality as a party that has hope in the US and not in war with it. And then start dreaming of defeating Edi Rama with the help of the US.
