From Beleri to Meloni: The stones that Rama removed from Tirana's shoes

From today, Fredi Beleri is no longer a homogeneous politician of Himara, but a political leader of the Golden Dawn who negotiates with Qirjako Micotaqis.

Since 2014, these are the first European elections that do not affect Tirana's European agenda. The result of this election is more or less the same as it happens every four years. Where in countries like France and Germany, the right-wing political forces that cannot become a majority benefit, and in countries with a lower record in society, such as Italy and Greece, the forces that are in government benefit.

In all other European elections, Albania has been in many European countries as the agenda of their European campaign. Like the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Great Britain before Brexit, where they talked about stopping the countries they call outside their range from entering Europe.

This time, even though Albania was again a main level political protagonist in the campaign, the situation was a little different.

In Greece, the "Beleri" case has given a big hand to Prime Minister Mitsotakis, after the heavy blow he received in last year's local elections where he lost the two largest cities of Greece. The fight with Tirana, namely with Edi Rama, seems to have mobilized the extreme electorate that once voted for Golden Dawn to support New Democracy.

From today, Fredi Beleri is no longer a homogeneous politician of Himara, but a political leader of the Golden Dawn who negotiates with Qirjako Micotaqis.

Ylli Manjani, struggles in vain when he calls this a victory of Beler against Rama. As Beleri did not win Albanian votes, but Greek votes, namely of the Greek extreme right, for which he has been campaigning for 20 years and today he is actually its political leader.

In the absence of the leaders of Hristi Avgji, Micotaqis may not be ashamed to have a "victim" like Beleri by his side, without fearing that they might call him a neo-Nazi.

But from today, Beleri is a Greek hero but not an Albanian politician. And to become a deputy, there is a very delicate procedure in accepting mandates since he is a convicted person.

Anyway, the next event of the European elections is the almost triumphant victory of Giorgia Meloni in the European elections. Which achieved a high result of 28%, which is a political confirmation.

Meanwhile, the left that has attacked Rama and Meloni for the refugee agreement, i.e. the 5 Star movement suffered a deep defeat.

Of course, Edi Rama did not win in the European elections, since it was not the Albanians who cast their votes. But the political partners of the official Tirana, not only have not lost, but have gained ground.

In the next European Parliament, there is no lobbying against Albania to use it as an electoral case. Because Rama today, in addition to being a senior leader of PSE and a partner with the EPP, is also a close ally with the other powerful group, which is the conservatives of Giorgia Meloni and Viktor Orban.

The seven MEPs of Neodemokratia, with Fredi Beleri, can really become political news against Tirana, but for Athens, not for Himara.
