Coach Julian Nagelsmann joins Thomas Tuchel in criticizing the position of photographers during the execution of the anthems at the 2026 World Cup. FIFA's new protocol for this edition causes them to be positioned in front of the benches, preventing visual contact between the technical staff and the players.
The problem for both coaches is the close proximity between their benches and the photographers. The England coach was the first to complain about this aspect of the World Cup, but now other colleagues are joining him in their cause.
" I don't know if we can complain, but I agree with Thomas Tuchel," Nagelsmann said after the victory over Ivory Coast. "I have the impression that the big goals take pictures of us down to the hairs on our noses at a distance of 1 cm ," he said.
Tuchel made a similar statement after England's World Cup debut against Croatia.
"I ask FIFA to change the position of the photographers during the national anthems because I can't see my team even though I really wanted to see it," the Three Lions coach declared. "I was facing a wall with 50 photographers in front of me, I couldn't see any of my players and that ruined the experience a little ," he said.
