In May 2025, the leader of the opposition (officially and de facto) was Sali Berisha.
In the April 2021 elections, for the parties currently in the coalition DP – Alliance for a Greater Albania (DP-ASHM, which includes DP, SMI, PR, PDIU, PAA, PBDNJ, etc.), around 770 thousand voters within the country voted (around 40 thousand of them had invalid votes due to complications with the complicated ballot). At that time, the leader of the opposition (at least officially) was Lulzim Basha.
In the May 2025 elections, around 500,000 voters in the country voted for the parties currently in the DP-ASHM coalition (around 18,000 of them had invalid votes due to complications with the complicated ballot paper). On January 12, 2026, a poll showed that only 375,000 voters in the country would vote for the parties currently in the DP-ASHM coalition. The current leader of the opposition (officially and de facto) is Sali Berisha.
Important note: Before the May 2025 elections, DP politicians and their commentators claimed that opposition voters had left the country in recent years, and that votes from emigration would recover the opposition's internal electoral deficit. In fact, only 47 thousand votes came by mail from emigration for the DP-ASHM (23.5% of the 200 thousand valid votes from emigration).
