What if the opposition was led by Luigj Gurakuqi?!

The entire public discourse, oriented by them, deals with petty internal problems regarding the party leadership and the impossible future of Sali Berisha, its historic leader...

There is a great rush to accuse the current opposition, represented by the Democratic Party, of everything. It is a competition to distort its role. There is no fault that does not overlap with it. For the sake of truth, its representatives often give a chance to the majority led by today's Prime Minister Rama. In the chaos they make in parliament, the noise, but most of all the justification for the responsibility for the change. The entire public discourse, oriented by them, deals with the small internal problems of the party leadership and the impossible future of Sali Berisha, its historical leader.

The latter, aware of this role, but not at all about the future of his party, since he should have thought about its fate decades in advance, has greatly reduced the internal discussion, along with that of ideas and above all change. On the contrary, the work of the majority has also served this purpose by gently and gently removing the bricks from the DP's edifice. A small group of people in the DP today are trying to articulate and approach ideas and problems, but they are constantly faced with the wall of the majority that leaves them no choice. Above all, it has devalued their words. The echo in return of their addresses has filled the country, which is in a crisis of morals and authority of faith.

In a situation, almost similar, but under different conditions, one of the leaders of the Albanian opposition, Luigj Gurakuqi, showed the possibilities of the opposition and the arrogance of the majority of that time. We are at a time when Ahmet Zogu is only the prime minister and openly ignores the opposition:  "If we listen to the vast majority of the members of the government, all the shortcomings, all the faults of this towards the homeland and the people, have their source in the bad behavior of the opposition. For the good of Albania, for the progress and prosperity of the people, we must therefore extinguish the opposition, this evil and unfortunate witch, the cause of miseries and hardships ." Gurakuqi's stinging mockery weighs not only on Zogu but also on many personalities of that time who do not understand the role of oppositionism. Among them is Musa Juka, then mayor of Shkodra. And, his lesson that today they have difficulty adapting in the opposition to convey to the majority: " Man cannot be satisfied with bread alone, but he also needs food for the soul. We had bread and work, perhaps even under the heel of a stranger, but it would be bread covered with shame, it would be work with the sweat of blood. It is better to be satisfied with a little, and to bask in the light of the world, but to nourish and strengthen the soul with lofty ideals that never die."

And, his request is and remains for idealization, what Albania needed at that time and which the opposition claims to be pursuing without any benefit. This is what we ask today of our opposition and change, the effort for a simple and normal Albania…with people like… Luigj Gurakuqi. …this remains a call to the ether. A few months later from the writing of these lines, the well-known personality would be assassinated in Bari. This message was written on a Saturday, November 3, 1923…he added at the end. He still hoped.
