The spectacle of a campaign!

Shkruar nga Roland Lami

Let's see who the capital's public will like: the performance of the politician-actor Rama, who like all of us is just acting, or the politician-actor Florjani, who sees the campaign as a stage and at least can be real in his role.

The spectacle of a campaign!
Florjan Binaj and Edi Rama

The paradox in the local by-elections for Tirana will be who can be the real one in the campaign - actor Florjan Binaj or politician Edvin Rama?

The actors on stage are "real"

In a theoretical sense, many theater scholars (such as Stanislavski, Grotowski, or later Peter Brook) have addressed the idea that the actor on stage must be as real as possible, bringing a sincere emotion and a felt experience to make his action convincing.

According to Stanislavski, the actor must not only "pretend", but believe in what he is doing on stage so that as long as he is on stage, he is not pretending, but is truly living another version of himself in an imagined circumstance.

So, paradoxically, a purer emotional truth occurs on stage than what happens in everyday life. The actor lives with this habit and finds it difficult to separate the stage from everyday life.

While we who are not actors by profession, in our case Rama, are actors in life all the time.

One of the most well-known theories is that of Erving Goffman, a sociologist who, in his book "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life" (1956), argues that we all play roles in everyday life. He says: Life is like a stage, and we are actors who interpret different roles depending on the circumstances (at work, in the family, with friends, etc.). In this view, our identity is a social construction, and we are never 100% "ourselves"; we are always adapting our behavior according to the "audience" in front of us.

So, in a paradoxical way, a purer emotional truth occurs on stage than what happens in everyday life.

Let's see who the capital's public will like: the performance of the politician-actor Rama, who like all of us is just acting, or the politician-actor Florjani, who sees the campaign as a stage and at least can be real in his role.
