
One in five employees who had an accident at work during the first half of this year lost their lives.
The situation has worsened compared to previous years. Figures from the Labor Inspectorate show that from January to June, 99 workplace accidents were recorded in the country, where 20 employees lost their lives.
Working at heights, gallery collapses in mines, production machinery, and accidents with transport vehicles in the trade sector are the main causes of workplace fatalities in Albania.
Fari Veliu, the 66-year-old who died today, is the third miner to lose his life since the beginning of this year.
According to data from the Labor Inspectorate, 9 accidents have been recorded in this sector until June.
The balance in this sector is even more tragic, with 1 in 3 accident victims dying.
The most problematic sector remains construction with 6 victims in 19 accidents during this six-month period.
So one in three construction accidents has lost their lives. Next are the electricity sector and trade with 3 fatalities each.
"In 100% of the subjects that were inspected in the context of the accident at work, administrative measures were taken, where there are subjects with two measures, namely; Urgent Measure "Suspension"; "Warning", "Fine". 11% of the subjects have received the Urgent Measure "Suspension", for flagrant violations related to safety and health at work and only 1% for employment relations. 62% of the subjects have received the main penalty "Warning". 36% of the subjects have received the main penalty "Fine", with a total value of 14,270,000 lek", says the Labor Inspectorate.
