Two people have been arrested by police on suspicion of transporting illegal immigrants to EU countries.
According to the police, these are citizens AM, 24 years old, and IV, 22 years old, residents of Kukës, who were caught in the "Kashari Overpass" area while transporting 5 immigrants.
The migrants were each asked for 2,700 euros, with the promise that they would be taken to France. The police have seized 1 vehicle and 2 mobile phones.
"Tirana Police structures finalized the operation codenamed "Relay 6", arresting two citizens suspected of transporting illegal immigrants towards European Union countries.
According to the official announcement, as part of the actions to crack down on migrant smuggling, specialists from the Illicit Trafficking Section at the Tirana Police Department arrested AM, 24 years old, and IV, 22 years old, residents of Kukës, at the place called "Mbikalimi i Kasharit". They are suspected of transporting 5 migrants by vehicle, from whom they had demanded 2,700 euros each, with the promise of sending them to France.
"1 vehicle and 2 mobile phones were seized as material evidence. Investigations for the full documentation of this criminal activity and for the identification of other persons involved continue, while the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action," the police announced.
