The Special Prosecutor's Office has mercy today in the Municipality of Durrës. It is learned that arrest warrants have been issued for 10 former officials of this municipality, including the former mayor, Vangjush Dako. For 3 days, there was talk in the political corridors that Dako would be arrested, while today it was announced that it is an investigation related to forgery of documents and corruption. SPAK's arrest warrants that are currently being implemented are 7 prison arrests and three house arrests.
On March 17 of this year, Vangjush Dako was seen at the doors of SPAK, where he was interrogated for more than 3 hours by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation, in connection with a complaint about the damage to a building in Durrës during at the time of the earthquake on November 26, 2019. The complaint was filed with the Special Prosecutor's Office in September 2020 by the residents of the building that was damaged after the earthquake, with the suspicion that Dako, during his tenure as mayor, approved permission for four additional floors even though the initial project envisaged a building with 10 floors.
It is suspected that arrest warrants were issued precisely for this event, however, a reaction from SPAK is expected. It should be noted that Dako is one of the officials declared "non grata" by the USA and for months it has been said that he would be arrested. Meanwhile, the interesting fact is that Prime Minister Edi Rama is losing his friends one by one, since he has often described Dako as a friend.
