SPAK demanded 1 year in prison for Dedje, as he did not declare an apartment with an area of 60 m2, located in the area of Golem...

The Special Court has found the former head of the Constitutional Court, Bashkim Dedja, guilty, sentencing him for hiding assets. Even though he becomes the first judge left in the vetting to be punished by GJKKO, he will remain outside the cell.

The court sentenced him to 6 months in prison, but converted it to probation. So even though SPAK provided evidence and found that he invested wealth with corruption money, he will still be sentenced to 1 year of probation, managing to avoid prison. It seems that the same tradition is being followed. Except for Adriatik Llalla who was sentenced to 3 years in prison, in all other cases the judges and prosecutors have defended each other.

SPAK demanded 1 year in prison for Dedje, as he did not declare an apartment with an area of 60 m2, located in the Kryemedhenj area, Golem Administrative Unit, Kavajë. The apartment was discovered during the vetting process and then the file passed to SPAK.

As far as this apartment is concerned, Dedja has said that it belongs to his brother and he was simply using it, but this claim of his did not convince the Prosecutor's Office. According to the accusation, Dedja made a false declaration of an apartment with an area of 146 square meters in Tirana in connection with a loan of 10 thousand euros taken from his brother-in-law. SPAK emphasizes that the investigation resulted in the lender being unable to grant this loan.

Bashkim Dedja, is accused of committing the criminal offense of "Refusal to declare, non-declaration, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants or any other person who has the legal obligation to declare", committed in the form of false declaration and concealment, provided by article 257/a/2 of the Criminal Code. The other former judge of the Constitutional Court, Fatos Lulo, is also under investigation for a similar charge.

On the other hand, it should be noted that all the other people left in the vetting have given up. Although nearly 300 names have been dismissed or resigned, no one is investigated or punished. SPAK only took Dedjen to trial, while for many others it stopped the investigations it had started.
