
A road accident occurred on Monday evening on Stahlstrasse, in St. Gallen (Switzerland), and a 4-year-old Albanian child lost his life.
A 44-year-old German, driving his Mercedes van towards Zürcher Strasse, in the Feldbachstrasse area, hit a 4-year-old boy with parents from Kosovo and an Austrian passport, in a residential area with a speed limit of 30 km/h, writes Blick.
The child, identified as Dardan, suffered serious injuries. Police and passersby provided first aid at the scene until the ambulance arrived, but despite the efforts of doctors, he died two hours later at the Children's Hospital.
Witnesses describe dramatic scenes. A local resident told the media: "I heard screams for help. When I went outside, I saw the boy seriously injured, while his mother was screaming in despair. It was a real tragedy."
Another resident, Xhevdet V., said he had helped at the scene: "My father was holding him in his arms. I laid him on the ground, put my shirt under his head and we immediately started resuscitation, but unfortunately everything was in vain."
Blendi V., 22, confirmed that the driver reacted immediately by calling emergency services and offering help. “The driver and his wife were in complete shock,” he said.
St. Gallen police have launched an investigation and are looking for witnesses who may have seen the moment of the collision.
The incident has severely shaken the local community, with residents expressing concerns about road safety and calling for a reduction in the speed limit.
