Mikelian Toma, 32, and David Simoni, 34, arrested on Wednesday evening in Shkodra while being pursued by police, are suspected of having set out to plant a quantity of TNT, but were caught by police.
Their motorbike was spotted by chance on one of the streets of the "Xhabije" neighborhood, on which two people in diving suits were riding. At first glance, the police officers thought it was suspicious and signaled it to stop, at which point the driver sped off.
The police chased them through the alleys and after a 20-minute alley-by-alley chase, they were able to stop and arrest the two people, Toma, the motorcycle driver, and Simon, the passenger.
They were stopped near the Martyrs' Cemetery or Kirit Bridge in Shkodra, when the motorcycle crashed while trying to escape. Verification of the license plates revealed that its license plate was stolen and the chassis number had been changed.
Despite the suspicions of the investigation team that the two young men were planning to set off TNT, which they are suspected of having thrown while being pursued by the police, the explosive material was not found. Toma and Simoni did not state anything during the interrogation session, not showing themselves to be collaborators.
It is not known who their target was, while further investigations are expected to reveal more complete details. The two's sinister plan also casts doubt after the search of their two cars, in which a can of gasoline, a muffler and some cocaine were found.
