A serious family incident has been prevented by the Himara police. A 35-year-old man held his parents hostage in their apartment, under threat of a cutting tool.
This is about citizen Spiro Dhimaleksi, who, in a serious psychological state, had isolated his parents, aged 60 and 65 respectively, in a room, threatening them with a knife that he would kill them.
Immediately after receiving the notification, police forces arrived at the scene and began negotiations with the 35-year-old.
After more than an hour of intense negotiations, a police officer, a resident of the area, managed to communicate directly with the perpetrator, thereby reducing the tension. At the time of the intervention, the 35-year-old attempted to harm himself with a cutting tool, causing wounds to the abdominal area.
Police officers intervened immediately, neutralizing him and removing the cutting tool, which made it possible to rescue the two parents without injury.
Afterwards, the 35-year-old was initially escorted to the Himara Police Station and then to Vlora, where he received medical assistance at the regional hospital, and was referred for treatment to psychiatric services.
Meanwhile, his parents have been questioned by authorities to clarify the full circumstances of the incident.
