The tragic incident in a vineyard in Rafina, Greece, where 41-year-old Altin Arapaj was shot dead, has led to the arrest of three people. The central figure in this incident is 46-year-old Mikel Selimaj, while the other two arrested are accused of collaboration and assistance in the circumstances of the murder.
According to Selimaj's lawyer, Nikos Roussopoulos, the murder was not intentional, but an accident that occurred under the high effect of the drug. " They had known each other for years, they were friends. They had consumed a large amount of cocaine and for this reason we have requested blood and urine tests to confirm the consumption ," Roussopoulos told "Developments Now."
The lawyer claims that the weapon belonged to the victim himself, and Selimaj intervened to disarm him. " While he was going to disarm him, the weapon went off and the bullet hit him in the cheek. If someone intends to kill, they don't shoot in the cheek, but in the head or chest ," the 46-year-old's defense attorney stressed.
In his testimony, Selimaj denies any property conflict with the victim, claiming that a dispute over a property existed between Arapaj and a Canadian citizen, and had nothing to do with him.
Investigations into the incident continue, while Greek authorities are expected to reveal more about the motives and dynamics of this murder that shocked the Albanian community in Greece.
