The next hearing in the trial against Laert Haxhiu's group, considered a rival of the former leader of the "Lushnjë Gang", Aldo Bare, was held at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO).
During this Tuesday's (March 4) session, witness Elvis Shehu was questioned, who provided details regarding the murder of Çajup Selim, an event that occurred five years ago and which, according to investigations, is related to conflicts between rival groups.
Laert Haxhiu, arrested in Greece and extradited to Albania two years ago, faces charges from SPAK for organizing, ordering and financing a series of assassinations over the years, mainly against opponents linked to Aldo Bare's group.
Artan Tafani has also cooperated with justice in this case, providing testimony about a series of crimes, including murder, injury, fines and robberies that, according to him, were committed over more than a decade.
When asked if he knew the victim, witness Elvis Shehu replied that he did. He also spoke about the moments before the serious incident.
"It happened on June 1, 2021. I was with his brother. I took Çajup to his work. We went for a walk. I took my uncle and another person and took them to work. We took the road towards Kalasa. He told me to take me home. I left him in the alley of his neighborhood," said Shehu.
Shehu said that he was notified of Selim's murder a few minutes later by the police.
"20 minutes later the police picked me up and said: 'Ask if something happened to Çajup!'"
Asked by prosecutors if he was aware of any conflict Selimi might have, he replied: "No. We would have heard about it if there was something."
As for the question of whether the victim had ever been accompanied to the police, the witness stated: "Maybe in 1997, but I was young then."
Finally, when asked how Selimi was known in the community, Shehu said: "A cheerful man. A well-known businessman."
