A 50-year-old man has been arrested by police in Tirana after being declared an international wanted man. It is learned that the arrested man, Bledar Mansaku, was sentenced to 7 years in prison by the Court of Appeal in Florence, Italy, for drug trafficking.
Authorities say that the sentencing decision was made in 2024, while an international search was declared for the 50-year-old.
Authorities have initiated proceedings for his extradition to Italy, where he is expected to serve his sentence.
"The police operation codenamed "Operation 88" is being finalized by the Directorate of the Special Operational Force, within the Criminal Police Department, to capture internationally wanted persons.
An internationally wanted citizen, sentenced in Italy to 7 years in prison for drug trafficking, is arrested.
Following successive operations conducted by the Directorate of the Special Operational Force, based on information obtained through operational channels, it was possible to locate and arrest citizen Bledar Mansaku, 50 years old, resident of Tirana, in Tirana.
This citizen was declared an international wanted person after the Court of Appeal in Florence, Italy, in 2024, sentenced him to 7 years in prison for the criminal offense of "drug trafficking", as provided for by the Italian Criminal Code.
" The provisional arrest of this citizen was carried out with the aim of extradition to Italy ," the police announced.
