The State Police have revealed details from the arrest in the US of Sokol Hoxha, an Albanian wanted for almost three decades for two serious criminal events in Albania and Belgium. The international operation, codenamed “Globe”, was finalized in the state of Ohio, thanks to the cooperation between Albanian authorities, American law enforcement agencies and Interpol structures in several countries.

Sokol Hoxha, born in Fier, was sentenced in Albania to 25 years in prison for the murder of two brothers in Patos in March 1997. According to investigations, he is suspected of committing the crime in collaboration with another person, for weak motives.

Just five months after this incident, Hoxha was involved in another serious crime in Belgium. Belgian authorities sentenced him to life imprisonment after in 1997 he shot and killed an Albanian citizen in Brussels, whom he had previously exploited for prostitution.

Albanian police announced that they are continuing procedures in cooperation with American authorities for the extradition of the 51-year-old to Albania, where he is expected to face justice for the sentence handed down by the Fier Court.

"The operation was finalized as a result of cooperation between the Diplomatic Security Service of the American Embassy in Tirana, the Criminal Police Department, Interpol Tirana, Interpol Washington, Interpol Manchester and Interpol Brussels.

An Albanian citizen, sentenced in Albania to 25 years in prison, and in Belgium to life imprisonment, for murder, is arrested in Ohio, USA.

The arrested man, in March 1997, killed 2 brothers in Patos, and 5 months later, he killed an Albanian citizen in Belgium, whom he had exploited for prostitution.

As a result of international police cooperation between investigators from the Special Police Unit of the Criminal Police Department (known as the "Joint Investigative Services Unit", which works closely with the DSS/OCIU International Criminal Investigation Units at the US Embassy in Tirana), the Interpol Directorate at the State Police, their counterparts in Washington, Manchester and Brussels, the US Marshals and other law enforcement agencies in the US, as part of the codenamed "Globe" operation, the Albanian citizen wanted since 1997 was arrested in Ohio:

-Sokol Hoxha, 51 years old, born in Fier.

This citizen, in 2000, was sentenced by the Fier Court to 25 years in prison for the criminal offense of "Murder", committed in collaboration, after on 30.03.1997, in Patos, Fier, in collaboration with citizen DS, he killed citizens HB and IB (brothers) with a firearm, for weak motives.

Also, in 2010, he was sentenced by the Court of Brussels, Belgium, to life imprisonment for the criminal offense of "Intentional Murder", after on 29.08.1997, he killed with a firearm, in Brussels, an Albanian citizen, whom he had previously exploited for prostitution.

"The State Police are working closely with US law enforcement agencies to return the 51-year-old to face justice in Albania ," the police announced.
