Belgian prosecutors have this week requested prison sentences for two Romanian citizens involved in one of the most mysterious events of recent months in Belgium - the gunfight in Zellik, where the target was a 44-year-old Albanian man, previously declared internationally wanted for a murder in Albania.
The incident occurred months ago, when three perpetrators opened fire on the Albanian's apartment, who returned fire, wounding one of the attackers. After the attack, the aggressors fled in a Citroën C5 that was later found burned in Oudenaarde. The injured man ended up in a hospital in the Netherlands, transported by the two Romanians in a Porsche Cayenne.
According to the prosecution, the role of the two young men was that of assistants: finding a place to burn the car and helping the perpetrators escape. They are seeking 2 years in prison, although the defense denies any involvement, claiming that they had accidentally come into contact with the injured person.
On the other hand, a 10-year prison sentence has been requested for the injured perpetrator, who later disappeared from the hospital and has not appeared in court. The other two perpetrators of the attack have not yet been identified. Meanwhile, the victim of the attack – the much-wanted Albanian – managed to flee Belgium and remains at large.
