The images you see show the place where Thimjo Rubati, also known as Sander Rubati, was seriously injured on Friday evening after a gun attack in neighborhood no. 4 of Saranda. The incident occurred in one of the most frequented areas of the city, where there is a high presence of tourists during this period.
According to preliminary information, at around 9:15 PM, two people in spacesuits, who were driving a motorcycle, opened fire on the 50-year-old man in front of his business. Sources indicate that Rubati was hit with three bullets, while the perpetrators immediately fled the scene.
The injured man was initially transported to Saranda Hospital, where he received first medical aid, and then urgently left for Tirana for specialized treatment, as he is in critical condition.
Thimjo Rubati is a person with a criminal record. He is known to the authorities for crimes related to the trafficking of illegal immigrants, smuggling, illegal possession of weapons and trafficking in motor vehicles. Sources indicate that he had only been released from prison in Greece a few years ago, where he had served a sentence for a serious incident.
The attack took place just a few meters from the place where the Saranda Police officer, Mihal Velço, was raped the night before. For that incident, the Police have announced a search for Andrea Rubati, 27, the son of the injured man, as well as Antonio Lefteri, 30, and Engjëll Dalanaj, 30. They are suspected of hitting and threatening the officer with a knife after he had asked them to stop dangerous maneuvers with motorcycles in the city.
The police have surrounded the area of the incident and have set up checkpoints at the entrances and exits of Saranda, while the investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, is continuing its work to identify the perpetrators and fully clarify the circumstances. Investigators are verifying all leads, including whether the assassination is related to the incident that occurred the night before.
