New details have been revealed from the serious incident in which Sokol Toma, the former chairman of the Democratic Party in Dajç, was assaulted.
According to the official announcement of the Lezha Local Police Directorate, the incident occurred at around 10:00 PM on May 9, 2026, on the "Mamurras-Laç" highway, near the Sandzhak intersection, where unidentified persons hit him with hard objects.
Investigators have seized security camera footage from a wide area and are carrying out other actions to identify and capture the perpetrators.
The Police statement states that the 53-year-old suffered injuries to his body, but without providing specific details about his health condition or the nature of the injuries.
However, sources said that the attackers are suspected of breaking his legs and cutting off part of his ear. He is currently hospitalized in the orthopedics ward, where he is receiving medical treatment.
"Regarding the incident that occurred at around 22:00 on 09.05.2026, on the "Mamurras-Laç" highway, near the Sandzhak intersection, where still unidentified citizens hit citizen ST, 53 years old, resident of Lezha, with hard objects, causing bodily injuries, we clarify that:
Immediately after the notification, the Police services and the investigation team went to the scene.
"The investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, is continuing intensive actions, has seized camera footage from a wide area, and is carrying out a series of other investigative actions with the aim of clarifying the circumstances, identifying and capturing the perpetrators," the police announced.
Sokol Toma has been known over the years as one of the most successful electoral organizers in the area, but after Gjin Gjoni took over the leadership of the Democratic Party branch for Lezha, he withdrew from political life.
