
After the discovery of over 7,000 cannabis plants in Velipojë, the State Police suspended three officers and launched disciplinary investigations against five employees.
The State Police has suspended three police officers from duty and launched a disciplinary investigation against two others, following the discovery of 7,446 suspected narcotic Cannabis Sativa plants in the village of Reç i Ri, in the Velipojë Administrative Unit.
According to the official announcement, the General Director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, ordered the suspension from duty of the Head of the Shkodra Police Station, Chief Commissioner BL, the Head of the Velipoja Police Station, Deputy Commissioner ZM, as well as the Assistant Policing Specialist in the Area, Inspector SK, responsible for the territory where the narcotic plants were found.
The police announced that information about the cultivation of the plot has been received by the email address of the Director General of the State Police. After receiving the information, the police structures organized the intervention to destroy the narcotic plants and identify the perpetrators involved.
"Following information received in the email of the General Director of the State Police regarding the cultivation of thousands of narcotic plants in the village of Reç i Ri, Velipojë, work was immediately organized to destroy them, as well as to identify and capture the perpetrators," the State Police statement said.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Professional Standards has launched an administrative investigation to verify the responsibilities of the officers who were tasked with controlling the territory.
According to the Police, a disciplinary investigation has also been launched against Deputy Commissioner DN, Crime Investigation Specialist at the Velipojë Police Station, as well as Inspector EI, Assistant Policing Specialist in the Area. No suspension has been imposed on these two employees.
"The fight against the cultivation of narcotic plants and any form of illegality is a priority of the State Police. Every case will be treated with maximum determination and without any compromise," the official response states.

Meanwhile, the General Director of the State Police ordered the Directorate of Professional Standards to conduct an in-depth administrative investigation.
For deficiencies found in the failure to fulfill duties, a disciplinary investigation was initiated against 5 police officers, specifically for:
-Chief Commissioner BL, acting Head of the Shkodra Police Station, for whom disciplinary suspension from duty has been imposed;
- Deputy Commissioner ZM, acting Chief of the Velipoja Police Station, also suspended from duty;
-Inspector SK, with the duty of Assistant Area Policing Specialist, responsible for the territory where the narcotic plants were found, suspended from duty.
Further, a disciplinary investigation has been initiated, without suspension from duty, for Deputy Commissioner DN, with the duty of Crime Investigation Specialist at the Velipojë Police Station, and Inspector EI, with the duty of Assistant Area Policing Specialist at the Velipojë Police Station, both part of the territory control group.
The fight against the cultivation of narcotic plants and any form of illegality is a priority of the State Police.
"Every case will be treated with maximum determination and without any compromise, both towards the perpetrators of criminal offenses and towards any police officer who fails to fulfill legal obligations or abuses their duty," the police statement said.
