49-year-old Klodian Lekocaj, also known as Klod Cara, continues to be at the center of investigations by Greek authorities for suspected criminal activity within the penitentiary system. He recently signed a written statement admitting to ordering the stabbing attack on 46-year-old Dhimitër Meçi, which occurred on January 29, 2026, in Malandrino prison.

In his statement, Lekocaj states: " I ask to be questioned about the attack on Dhimo Meci on 29/01/2026 in Malandrino. I gave the order for the attack. I don't want anyone who is not guilty to get involved. I can only confirm it if for some reason you can't invite me ."

In parallel with this development, the Greek police have conducted an operation inside the prison where Lekocaj is located, uncovering an organized network for introducing narcotics into cells.

According to preliminary investigations, Lekocaj is suspected of acting as the organizer and leader of a criminal organization, coordinating the suppliers, transportation, importation and distribution of drugs within the Detention Center, as well as managing the proceeds from sales.

Three people, ages 27, 23, and 20, were also arrested, while another person is also included in the file.

Who is Claude Cara?

Klod Cara alias Klodian Lekocaj, 48 years old, a controversial character has returned to the spotlight in recent years due to being labeled by the Greek media as the leader of the so-called "Prison Mafia". How much he really is like that is unknown, since in his public appearances in the media he considers himself "poor", "innocent", "used", while the facts, evidence and wiretaps available to the Greek police lead to the opinion that Lekocaj really had and still has an important role in the underworld of Albanian and Greek criminal groups.

Lekocaj has often been revealed through wiretaps and testimony to have strangely connected criminal groups by providing them or himself with hired killers. Such was the case on September 14, 2022, when the Greek police randomly arrested two Albanians, Viktor Çala, 39 years old, and Andi Beqiri, 23 years old. They were caught in Athens, after 2 Kalashnikovs and 1 knife were found hidden in their vehicle, while 1 pistol was found in the apartment. The police investigation revealed that Çala was the author of the murder of a Greek citizen and the attempted murder of an Albanian, both events that occurred in July 2022. He stated that he had been ordered to kill the Greek by Klodian Lekocaj, due to the disruption of drug deals. Thus, the 48-year-old, who is also known as "Luli" or "Ilia" in Greek cartels, was then charged with another charge after previous charges of ordering the murders of Greek lawyer Mixalis Zafiropoulos, prisoner Arbër Bako, prisoner Bardhyl Tusha, involvement in the attempted murder of a Pakistani, extortion of former Greek Minister Dimitri Tsovola, assistance in the escape of prisoners Leonard and Elvis Pepa, etc.

Lekocaj, in fact, apart from the orders, has precedents as a direct perpetrator. He was initially arrested in 1997 for theft. In 2003, he escaped from Volos Prison, while in 2005 in Agio Pantaleimona he shot and wounded an Albanian in the stomach, and then in the same place in 2006, together with two Albanians, he stabbed a fellow countryman. In 2013, he was arrested for drug trafficking and theft and was sent to Corfu prison, where after receiving permission, he escaped in 2014 and a few days later, together with Arber Bako, he participated in a robbery attempt, resulting in the injury of an Egyptian, while on October 31, 2014, together with Arber Bako, Olti Dulce and a Pole committed a murder in the Metaxurgio area.

Lekocaj was finally arrested in November 2014 in Sepolia, in the company of Dhimo Meci. Their arrest came after the Mikrolimano incident where Arbër Bako wounded several customers of a bar in the area with a Kalashnikov.

Klodian Lekocaj is also mentioned as having had connections with Albanians Elvis Bogdani and Ari Papa, previously executed in Greece.

In 2019, Lekocaj was accused of recruiting a hitman from Albania to execute a Pakistani, while in March 2023, Lekocaj was charged with fined 100,000 euros to a Greek businessman.

In April 2025, Lekocaj was accused of ordering the assassination of Albanians Kristjanis Stefa and Florian Bajraktari, which occurred on September 23, 2024.
