The Tirana Criminal Court has rejected the Tirana Prosecution's request against 14 protesters who were arrested during and after the protest called by the Democratic Party on February 10.
The protesters were arrested after violent clashes erupted at Parliament, where the largest number of Molotov cocktails were thrown, while the police used tear gas, pressurized water, and rubber batons to disperse the crowd.
In the session to assess the security measures, the Prosecution requested that two of the protesters remain in custody, three under house arrest, and nine others be “compulsory to appear.” But the Court decided that all 14 of the arrested would be subject to “compulsory to appear.” This security measure is the same as the one imposed on 7 other protesters the day before, who were separated from the other group of arrested protesters due to their age (minors).
The police claimed that 16 police officers were injured as a result of the Molotov cocktails, while no data was reported on how many citizens were injured as a result of tear gas, pressurized water or rubber batons. The only reported case was the injury suffered by Democratic MP Bledjon Nallbati, who was hit by a group of special forces police.
