Shkëlqim Goxhaj, director of the Tirana Fire Department, announced that the fire at the "5 Maji" clothing market is moving towards extinction.
He stressed that firefighters are doing a heroic job to completely contain the flames. According to him, the silos engulfed in the fire mainly contain clothes and plastic objects, which have favored the spread of the flames, while it is still unclear whether there are gas cylinders inside.
" The fire was localized only to the building that initially collapsed. It was the first hour of the intervention, where we faced the materials and the roof that spread the flames. Then we moved on to the complete isolation of the hearth, engaging forces from Tirana, Kamza, Vora and Elbasan, with support from the state and municipal police, " Goxhaj declared.
He added that other stores are safe and the fire has not spread further. Due to the large amount of clothes and plastic materials, firefighters are continuing to monitor the situation and a full examination will be carried out by police and fire department specialists.
