Prosecutor Behar Dibra has requested a total of 133 years in prison, with the most severe sentences being for Sadetin Hasaj and Blerim Xheka, 13 years each.
The Special Prosecution Office has announced the indictment of 17 defendants accused of being part of a structured criminal group involved in the cultivation of cannabis in closed greenhouses in Berat.
Prosecutor Behar Dibra has requested a total of 133 years in prison, with the most severe sentences being for Sadetin Hasaj and Blerim Xheka, 13 years each.
It is learned that for four of the defendants, Bashkim Mema, Drita Mema, Izmire Mema and Edison Mema, the Special Prosecution has requested suspension of the prison sentence and their placement on probation for three years.
According to SPAK, this activity resulted in a total amount of 1.7-1.8 tons of cannabis sativa being obtained.
The defendants are charged with the criminal offenses of "Production and sale of narcotics", "Cultivation of narcotic plants", "Commitment of criminal offenses by a structured criminal group" and "Production and possession of weapons and ammunition".
The following punishment measures have been requested for the other defendants:

The operation took place on November 10, 2022, when about 870 kilograms of cannabis were seized and at least 11 people were arrested. On April 22, 2024, at the request of SPAK, the Special Court imposed the measure of "prison arrest" on 9 people.
According to the investigations, the activity took place in Berat, while at that time disciplinary measures were also taken against local police structures, where almost the entire police station was involved in measures such as dismissal from duty or postponement of promotions, due to the failure to detect criminal activity.
