The body of the 29-year-old man killed on Friday, March 20, in Olmo, a village in Arezzo, Italy, has been returned to his family, who have opened the doors of the morgue.
Gjergj Pergegaj will be buried in his native Albania, from where he arrived in Italy about five years ago. He was working as a bricklayer when he was shot by his compatriot Edison Beluli, 35, Italian media report.
A young woman, who is being discussed, is at the center of the massacre.
The autopsy carried out in Siena by the forensic team gave prosecutor Emanuela Greco precise indications of gunshot wounds. The shot to the trachea, fired at close range, was fatal. A second shot hit the 29-year-old in the chest, while the other two bullets missed the mark.
The young woman who was allegedly at the center of the fight between the young men works near the bar/pizzeria where the incident occurred. Gjergjit's ex-girlfriend had been dating Edison, and there had been a disagreement between them earlier.
The murder took place on the evening of March 20, at 11:30 p.m., with a Glock pistol stolen from an apartment in Assisi a year earlier, which Beluli had secured a few days before the crime. He is in prison accused of premeditated murder and, according to investigating judge Claudio Lara, premeditation cannot be disputed, even though the shots were fired after Pergegaj got out of the car and his rival was in front of him. There was no fight, as the autopsy confirms.
The whole incident was filmed by camera. A third person also intervened to catch the killer, while the victim was on the ground. Then Beluli fled towards Rigutin, where he lives, and was caught by the flying squad.
Starting today, Thursday, March 26, Gjergji's family - his parents and three siblings - can organize his repatriation (possibly tomorrow, Friday, March 27) and funeral, after receiving his body from the morgue. Pergegaj lived in Frassineto and is described as a good guy. He, like his rival, was a construction worker.
The investigation continues. So far, the killer has exercised his right to remain silent, while he is represented by lawyer Luca Turchetti.
