A 46-year-old man has been arrested by police after being caught with over 16 kg of drugs in his car in the village of Vishocicë, Devoll, as it is suspected that the cannabis was being trafficked towards the Greek state.
46-year-old Julian Belortaja, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested, while his 37-year-old accomplice is wanted.
The 46-year-old was stopped for a search in the village of Vishocica, and in the trunk of the vehicle inside a sports bag, narcotics were found, which were divided into 15 packages wrapped in plastic. According to the police, the investigation revealed that the 46-year-old, in collaboration with the 37-year-old, would traffic the narcotics to the neighboring country.
In addition to the narcotics, a cell phone was also seized, and according to the police, it is being investigated whether other people are involved.
"After a several-week investigation using proactive methods, the operation codenamed "Cross Border" is being finalized to crack down on criminal activities in the field of narcotics.
The operation was carried out by the Narcotics and Illicit Trafficking Investigation Sector at the Korça Police Department, in cooperation with the Devoll Police Commissariat.
The 46-year-old was caught red-handed while transporting 16 kg of cannabis, allegedly towards the Greek border, by vehicle and was placed in handcuffs.
A 37-year-old man, an associate of the 46-year-old, is being sought, while work continues to capture him.
16 kilograms of cannabis, the vehicle in which the narcotics were being transported, and 1 cell phone were seized.
Following successive strikes against criminal activity in the field of cultivation, production and trafficking of narcotics, specialists from the Narcotics and Illicit Trafficking Investigation Section, after a several-week investigation with proactive methods, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, finalized the police operation codenamed "Cross Border".
As part of the operation, citizen JB, 46 years old, resident of Korça, was arrested in flagrante delicto, and citizen DM, 37 years old, resident of Korça, the 46-year-old's accomplice, was declared wanted.
During the operation, the Police services stopped for inspection in the village of Vishocicë, Devoll, the vehicle driven by citizen JB.
Police services found a sports bag in the trunk of the vehicle, inside which were 15 packages wrapped in natriban, with a total weight of 16 kg, suspected of being the narcotic cannabis sativa.
From the investigations so far, it has emerged that citizen JB, in collaboration with citizen DM, for whom the work to capture him continues, would traffic the quantity of narcotics towards Greece.
The work continues under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office to identify and apprehend other persons who may have been involved in this criminal activity.
"The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korça, for further action," the police announced.
