Tirana police arrested 22-year-old Erisjaldo Gjuta, the nephew of Vladimir Gjuta, after the shooting of an 18-year-old woman at a hotel owned by his family.
The incident has raised doubts about the circumstances of the injury, as investigators are verifying whether the young woman was self-injured or shot by another person. The 18-year-old turns out to have been in a relationship with the 22-year-old.
Police are continuing their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
"Specialists for the Investigation of Crimes against Life and Property, in cooperation with Police Commissariat No. 1, arrested and detained citizen E. Gj., 22 years old, who was declared wanted yesterday for the criminal offenses "Failure to report a crime", "Actions that hinder the discovery of the truth", committed in collaboration, and "Unauthorized possession of explosive weapons and ammunition", the Police statement states.
The injury of 18-year-old Natalie Murati yesterday in Tirana has raised suspicions of manipulation of the event. The police rushed to issue an official statement classifying the incident as self-harm, even referring to the footage from the cameras located in the hotel where the injury occurred.
But journalists who reported on the incident have raised doubts about the existence of security cameras. Under such circumstances, if such a claim is accepted, the question that arises is: where did the Proda police find the footage?
In the official announcement, the police emphasized that "from the rapid investigative actions carried out by specialists for the Investigation of Crimes against Life and Property, as well as from the examination of security camera footage, it resulted that the incident occurred on the premises of a subject in Sauk, where the 18-year-old is suspected of having self-injured with a firearm."
However, according to reports from journalists on the ground, there were no security cameras at the "Gjuta" hotel, where the injury is suspected to have occurred. According to these sources, their absence has made it difficult to fully verify the dynamics of the event, leaving the moment of the incident without video evidence.
The 18-year-old has told investigators that she self-harmed, but sources close to the investigation team say there are also suspicions that she was injured under other circumstances. This possibility has not been proven so far.
Meanwhile, members of the Gjuta family, who are suspected of initially concealing the incident, have previously stated that they acted out of fear that the girl might lose her life and that, because the suicide attempt occurred on their business premises, criminal liability could be charged to them.
These developments add to the uncertainty over the official version and the real circumstances of the event, while further clarification is expected from the authorities regarding the reference to security cameras and the progress of the investigation.
We recall that in connection with the incident, according to the police report, two people, Mirvete Rexhmati Gjuta and Vladimir Gjuta, have been arrested.
Still wanted are: Sajmir Gjuta, 49 years old, Elvir Gjuta, 24 years old.
Sources indicate that 22-year-old Erisjaldo Gjuta, the boyfriend of 18-year-old Natalie Murati, is the son of Sajmir Gjuta and Mirvete Rexhmati Gjuta. Meanwhile, Vladimir Gjuta is the 22-year-old's uncle, while Elvir Gjuta is his cousin.
Meanwhile, work continues to locate and seize the firearm used in the incident.
